New target numbers set for GCI sites?
Rumors have been swirling that at least some newspaper properties are being told to grossly exceed budget for the first six months of 2010.

Re: New target numbers set for GCI sites?
I'm confused. Are properties being told to exceed their income and revenue targets or their spending budgets? I find it hard to believe they would be told to exceed their spending budgets since we're being forced into more furloughs in 1st qtr (and I think 2nd qtr). Any chance that it could be clarified a little.
Thanks.
Thanks.

This has to do with revenue budgets.

This is Gannett in full bloom, a penny-pinching company setting sales quotas and revenue expectations for its field people without regard for economic reality. It serves the company in two ways; If the salespeople hit the inflated sales targets, the company makes out; And if the salespeople don't hit the numbers, the company saves a bundle on bonuses and commissions and can wean itself of higher-paid employees that are at over 100 percent of the company's prescribed salary for those positions. We lost many good salespeople at my paper through this insidious practice. It's a major turnoff to loyal employees who initially thought the company was behind them.

What person would have been so naive as to think that this company was actually "behind them?" This is Gannett - the most spiteful, mean-spirited, conniving, insidious, elitist, backward, arrogant, detached from reality and incompetent company in media corporation history. But perhaps I judge too harshly..... hahahahahah
