Parson, Palm Springs Desert Sun
Palm Springs.... I'm number one of the July 9 layoffs here. Can't say how many others will be layed off. I notified management that I had to fly home on Thursday the 9th because my father is passing. That created a dilema evidently because I wouldn't be there on the 9th. They told me later in the day (today) that I was being let go.The timing sucks. But I really don't have hard feelings towards the company. I know I would have a hard time picking who goes and who stays. My feeling is that it's the right time to leave this industry.
What I've read so far online about the severance or transitional pay is correct. They are outsourcing it to Total Management Solutions. Transitional Pay is only paid if you are eligible to receive state unemployment benefits. You must verify your eligibility for this on a weekly basis.
I did cancel my subscription to The Desert Sun once I got home today. I get my news online anyway.

Parson,
I am so sorry about your dad. I know this has to be the hardest day of your life.
I am happy you got to spend time with your dad before he passed. That means more than
anything. You cannot put a price on that. Gannett is just a job, a passing phase in your life.
I know, from the bottom of my heart, that things will turn around for you. The fact you put your father before anything tells me that you are a good person and you will move forward with your
life without Gannett.
I am very sorry for your loss. But I know great things are in store for you. Your dad wouldn't have it any other way.
God bless.

Parson,
I am sorry to hear about your father and your layoff. The parsimonious bastards that run the company will stoop to any low to save a couple of bucks. Robbing people of their hard earned severance at a time that they choose to hire a new corporate flack is unconscionable. My thoughts are with you and the other Gannett employees at this difficult time.

Had a staff meeting at 4:30 p.m. today. Ramhoff and Green finally tallied the layoff numbers at 19. Some of those were for frozen positions though, so no one is quite sure how many were let go from each respective department. Guess we'll find out after some don't show up tomorrow...

So sorry to hear the news! I wish you & your family my best!

One can only wonder how all of this will affect any plans the remaining Cliquesters & Nepotistas may have regarding their next Gannett-paid trip to Hawaii or Costa Rica?
Just think! With all of the loot they'll be saving, perhaps they'll be able to afford a Gannett World Cruise and President's Rings for all of them?
They shouldn't plan on sailing much longer in the ship they're on now though, it's so top-heavy, it could capsize at any moment!

Parson,
How are you doing? And your family? Once again, I am so sorry about your father.
Please know that I understand what you are going through,
Lots of prayers going your way.
